In a significant stride towards sustainable forest management in Africa, the WEESDev Foundation actively participated in the workshop on the Regional Assessment of Forest Education from November 2019 to February 2021. This collaborative initiative, organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization, the International Tropical Timber Organization, and the International Union of Forest Research Organization, aimed to address the evolving societal demands on forests and the escalating pressures on forest resources.
The workshop, a joint effort by leading international organizations, focused on evaluating and enhancing forest education in the region. Recognizing the critical role education plays in shaping the future of forests, the workshop sought to align educational programs with the changing dynamics of the environment. As forests face unprecedented challenges, the need to attract and nurture talented students in forest-related programs becomes paramount.
The WEESDev Foundation’s active involvement in this initiative underscores its commitment to fostering sustainable practices in forest management. By engaging in this comprehensive workshop, the foundation aligns itself with the global efforts to equip future professionals with the knowledge and skills necessary to address the complex issues surrounding forests.
